Messages queue locally when offline and auto-sync when you reconnect. A live indicator shows queued count and sync progress. Never lose a message.
Every other messenger gives up when the network dies. ndeip switches to Bluetooth, WiFi Direct, or even lets your message ride across the country on other phones — until it arrives.
Important: Offline messaging is currently available as a backup feature. We recommend using ndeip with a regular internet connection for the best experience. As we develop new technology partnerships and expand our infrastructure, we will announce when offline messaging becomes a primary communication method. For now, toggle it on when you need it — ndeip finds a way.
Tap the smart status bar in your Chats screen or go to Settings. ndeip also detects weak connectivity and suggests switching automatically.
Type your message or record a voice note as usual. Codec2 compression makes voice messages small enough to travel over Bluetooth (5KB for 60 seconds).
Your message is encrypted and sent via the best available channel — Bluetooth, WiFi Direct, or queued for relay through nearby ndeip phones.
Your message hops from device to device — on matatus, at bus stops, in markets — until it reaches the recipient. Delivery confirmation travels back the same way.
When you hit Send, ndeip's transport engine runs through this chain invisibly — you never see the switching.
Automatically combines Bluetooth, BLE, and WiFi Direct — picks whichever works best. Free, built into Android, zero hardware needed. Range: 100-200m.
Open-source codec that compresses voice to 700 bits/second. A 60-second voice message = just 5KB. Makes voice messaging viable over Bluetooth and LoRa.
Messages hop phone-to-phone using human movement as infrastructure. Encrypted, with TTL expiry, deduplication, and delivery confirmation that propagates back through the mesh.
One phone acts as a local chat server for the community. 20-100 people connect simultaneously. Perfect for villages, churches, schools. Optional: $10 Raspberry Pi as permanent hub.
Long-range radio protocol pushing range to 10-15km per hop. Open-source Meshtastic firmware handles mesh networking. Codec2 voice works over LoRa for real-time voice at range.
Encodes messages as inaudible high-frequency sound (18-20kHz). Any phone with a speaker and microphone can participate. Works even on feature phones. Range: 1-5m.
A stripped-down web version of ndeip designed for basic phones. Focused on offline text messaging and voice notes. Accessible via the homepage download link.
Text messaging via carrier USSD codes. Works on any phone, any network. Requires partnership with carriers like Econet, MTN, or Airtel.
Uses unused television broadcast frequencies for long-range data. As TVWS networks expand across Africa, ndeip can plug in as another transport channel.
Partner with community radio stations to broadcast ndeip messages over RDS. One-directional but perfect for village announcements and emergency alerts.
As Android direct-to-satellite rolls out via Starlink and AST SpaceMobile, ndeip's transport layer will detect satellite capability as the ultimate fallback — anywhere on Earth.
ndeip (Shona: "where") is more than a messaging app — it's a communication philosophy. Born from the understanding that connectivity in Africa isn't a guarantee, ndeip is built to find a way to deliver your message no matter what.
While other messengers give up when the network dies, ndeip switches to Bluetooth. Then WiFi Direct. Then it hands your message to a stranger's phone and lets it ride across the country until it arrives. That's not just a feature — that's resilience built into software.
Every feature in ndeip — from the Top 3 Favorites system that ensures your most important people always reach you, to the Audio Villages that bring community conversations online — is designed with African life in mind. Premium quality, zero compromise.
